We are continuing to see fires out here in Southern Oregon and Northern California. My own family is safe; we’re dealing with the heat and horrible levels of smoke affecting the air quality, but we’re at a safe distance from the main areas that are burning. So many people are dealing with far worse though. Many have been evacuated from dangerous areas, and some of them have lost homes. A few people have even died out in the Redding (”Carr Fire”) area.
With so many things going on, it can be easy to feel like there’s not much I can do to really make a difference, but I still want to try. I am looking into where and how I want to contribute specifically, but the basic idea I have so far is to try to sell some prints and cards of this piece and give the profits to the relief effort for people who have lost so much in these fires. I know financial contributions are typically more useful for disaster relief than sending physical items or trying to help in person. I was also considering ordering one print of this piece on canvas and giving it a little hand-touched paint and gold leafing treatment to sell or maybe auction. I’m open to hearing ideas too, as long as you’re aware I can’t use them all at the end of the day. Brainstorming is useful, in any case.
In the meantime, please pray for rain for our area to help the firefighters, and for the safety of people who are having to evacuate and the all emergency workers.
